THE STONE MOUNTAIN POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL USE FY24 SAFER OUTCOMES FUNDING TO PROVIDE TRAINING AND OTHER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO SIX SMALL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN DEKALB COUNTY, GEORGIA: THE STONE MOUNTAIN POLICE DEPARTMENT, PINE LAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AVONDALE ESTATES POLICE DEPARTMENT, LITHONIA POLICE DEPARTMENT, CLARKSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND STONE MOUNTAIN PARK POLICE. THE PROGRAM WILL BEGIN WITH A VISIT TO A MODEL SITE TO ALLOW OFFICERS TO WITNESS FIRSTHAND INNOVATIVE RESPONSE STRATEGIES FOR MENTAL HEALTH CRISES. THE PROGRAM WILL ALSO INCLUDE INCREASED COORDINATION WITH LOCAL MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND TRAININGS IN CRISIS INTERVENTION, MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID AND OTHER TOPICS TO PROVIDE OFFICERS WITH GREATER UNDERSTANDING WHEN ENCOUNTERING PERSONS EXPERIENCING MENTAL HEALTH CRISES AND STRATEGIES FOR WAYS TO DE-ESCALATE THESE INTERACTIONS IF NECESSARY.
